WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, First Lady Melania Trump convened Russian and Ukrainian representatives at the White House on the heels of her historic deal securing a ceasefire agreement in Oleshky, Ukraine. Independent Women applauds First Lady Melania Trump for her tireless efforts to deliver peace and security to the most vulnerable in Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Dr. Meaghan Mobbs, director of Independent Women’s Center for American Safety and Security, said: 

“History is often shaped by those willing to pursue possibilities others have dismissed. First Lady Melania Trump has done something extraordinary, bringing two nations at war together around the most fundamental obligations of our shared humanity.

“For a child, that means a warm meal and the promise of tomorrow. For the elderly, lifesaving medication and the dignity of knowing they have not been forgotten. Nearly 800 people were given a chance at safety because both sides were willing to find common ground amid a devastating war.

“We cannot forget who bears responsibility for this suffering, but we must also recognize that peace will ultimately require engagement with those responsible.

“Perhaps Oleshky offers a glimpse of a different path forward, where humanitarian agreements create the foundation for more consequential diplomatic breakthroughs.

“The First Lady has demonstrated the remarkable possibilities of unconventional diplomacy and her ability to bring adversaries to the table and achieve meaningful success.

“The road to peace remains long, but even the longest roads begin somewhere. We should have the courage to embrace this moment of hope and the determination to build upon it.”

THE STOLEN CHILDREN:

Mobbs, a combat veteran and mom of two daughters, serves as lead investigator in the premiere episode of “Faith in War,” where she highlights the human cost of Russia’s campaign to tear children from their families through on-the-ground investigative reporting.

“The Stolen Children,” released this fall, exposes Russia’s systematic abduction of Ukrainian children and follows the extraordinary efforts fighting to bring these children home, reunite with their loved ones, and rebuild their lives.
