WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rosie the Riveter helped mobilize a generation of American women and became the icon of American strength. Today, Independent Women launched Rosie 250: “We Can Do It, Again!” a nationwide movement celebrating the enduring legacy of Rosie the Riveter and calling on a new generation of women to reclaim American patriotism, possibility, and purpose.

Rosie 250 is spearheaded by Meaghan Mobbs, director of Independent Women’s Center for American Safety and Security, who believes that the next generation of American women deserve to know they are not standing outside the American story, asking permission to enter it. They are already inside it—as heirs to its promise, stewards of its future, and builders of whatever comes next.

“Rosie’s story is personal to me. My parents taught me that loving this country means being willing to serve it. My dad was in the Pentagon on 9/11. I chose West Point and wore the uniform with pride, carrying that same sense of duty with me. Now I look at my own daughters and I want them to know they belong to a country worthy of their pride, their effort, and, when called, their sacrifice. That belief is critical to our national security. America will remain strong only if each generation loves her enough to serve and defend her. This happens wherever American women choose to build, teach, raise, create, lead, protect, and strengthen the country we share.”

Mobbs is no stranger to fighting for the American dream, as a former paratrooper and combat veteran.

Modern Rosie the Riveter Illustration in Honor of America’s 250th Anniversary

Just as Rosie was a response to America’s workforce crisis during WWII, Rosie 250 is the response to the cultural crisis Americans face today.

Rosie 250 comes at a critical time when patriotism has dipped to historic lows and as a growing number of young women have been persuaded that America has failed them. Rosie 250 offers a different story: American women have never been bystanders in the American experiment. They have built it, defended it, raised families within it, and helped carry it forward.

Rosie was never about forcing women into one prescribed role, representing something far more powerful—that American women could do it all. Like Rosie the Riveter, American women are not forced into a single path. Some work in industry. Some go to school. Some raise families. Some lead and serve in their communities. American women have the freedom to chart their own course, and that deserves to be celebrated.

The Rosie 250 launch kicked off with Mobbs’ flagship commentary, “America Still Needs Rosie the Riveter,” published yesterday, on Labor Day, in Evie Magazine. Blending memoir with cultural commentary, Mobbs makes the case that Rosie’s legacy is that there is no singular blueprint for a “good woman,” and that there never was. That is an “American idea,” she argues, writing in part:

“Rosie was never the rejection of family or motherhood. She was proof of something more radical than any ideology that has come since—that American women were capable of everything. She could build a B-17 bomber plane and raise a child. She could weld steel and hold a family together. She could answer a national call and still be fully, undeniably herself. Rosie did not diminish femininity. She revealed its full dimensions.”

To mark the launch of Rosie 250, Mobbs will join NewsNation’s Katie Pavlich Tonight alongside her parents, U.S. Army General Keith Kellogg, and mother, Paige Kellogg, a former U.S. Army officer, for an exclusive interview. The conversation will explore the Kellogg family’s generations of military service and what Rosie the Riveter’s legacy can teach Americans about raising confident, patriotic, purpose-driven daughters.
