“This working mom won’t allow the Democrats’ Socialist nightmare to crush our kids’ dreams and bankrupt their future. Not on my watch!”
DALLAS, TX — Patrice Onwuka, vice president for Economic Policy at Independent Women, took the stage at the Republican National Committee’s Midterm Convention in Dallas tonight with her two young sons, Jesse and Daniel, by her side, delivering a deeply personal case for the American Dream and the economic policies she says are helping working families pursue it.
Forty-one years ago, her parents arrived in America from a tiny British colony in the Caribbean with two children, two suitcases, and a belief that hard work in America could build a better life.
Today, their daughter is an economic policy expert, writer, commentator, wife, and mother of three—and she took the RNC stage to argue that the same promise must remain within reach for her own children.

Watch Patrice Onwuka’s Full Remarks.
“Today, I’m a writer, a commentator, a wife, and a mom. I am the fulfillment of my parents’ American Dream, a dream I pass on to my children, thanks to policies like the Working Families Tax Cuts signed by President Trump.,” Onwuka said.
“Don’t believe the nonsense about these tax cuts being for the wealthy. These are working class tax cuts. They fuel opportunity for everyone. And not one Democrat voted for them.”
Onwuka pointed to the provisions of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act (WFTCA), also known as the One Big, Beautiful Bill—including No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, the enhanced Child Tax Credit, the increased Standard Deduction, expanded 529 education savings options, and Trump Accounts—for making a tangible difference for her family and everyday Americans.
“This year, 6 million tipped workers saved over $7,000 on average. Bill Gates doesn’t get tips. But hairdressers do. So do waitresses and manicurists. And bartenders like AOC!” Onwuka exclaimed.
Onwuka’s message from the convention stage echoed an argument she made Wednesday in the Washington Post that her observations about the economy aren’t drawn only from data sets, but from grocery store aisles and conversations with cashiers.

Onwuka also highlighted provisions aimed at helping families save for the future. Expanded access to 529 plans gives more families like hers greater flexibility to cover education expenses, while Trump Accounts provide families a new way to begin investing for their children early.
With Trump Accounts opened for each of her boys, her children will have a valuable head start on building wealth. Whether that means paying for college, buying a first home, or securing their retirement, Trump Accounts are helping them learn firsthand the value of investing and saving while they watch their investments grow in real time.

Seniors, frontline workers, families, and small businesses have all benefitted greatly from the One Big Beautiful Bill. Onwuka challenges the lies that these tax cuts are only for the rich, speaking from her own experience as a beneficiary of the WFTCA.
Onwuka closed her remarks with a nod to Independent Women’s Rosie 250 initiative to restore patriotism and love of country as an answer to America’s cultural crisis: “We Can Do It, Again!”, Onwuka said, in part:
“This working mom won’t allow the Democrats’ Socialist nightmare to crush our kids’ dreams and bankrupt their future. Not on my watch!”
As the Trump administration advances its affordability agenda and expands tax relief, Independent Women is continuing to elevate the voices of everyday Americans whose lives to illustrate how the administration is helping Americans keep more of their paychecks, manage rising costs, and find greater financial stability.

Forty-one years ago, my family left a tiny British colony in the Caribbean to start a new life in the U.S. With two kids in tow and two suitcases in hand, my parents pursued their American Dream. They found it in Boston. My parents never complained about working long hours at menial jobs. They felt blessed to be living in America – the greatest nation on earth!
Today, I’m a writer, a commentator, a wife, and a mom. I am the fulfillment of my parents’ American Dream, a dream I pass on to my children, thanks to policies like the Working Families Tax Cuts signed by President Trump.
Don’t believe the nonsense about these tax cuts being for the wealthy. These are working class tax cuts. They fuel opportunity for everyone. And not one Democrat voted for them.
This year, 6 million tipped workers saved over $7,000 on average. Bill Gates doesn’t get tips. But hairdressers do. So do waitresses and manicurists. And bartenders like AOC!
Republicans prevented a massive tax increase on the vast majority of taxpayers, made lower rates permanent, and increased the Standard Deduction. They gave Americans breathing room to pay for necessities and maybe take a family vacation, like our beachside renewal of vows for our 10th wedding anniversary.
With three growing boys, the increase in the Child Tax Credit is a godsend to us and over 34 million families.
The expansion of 529 plans helps parents cover our kids’ K-12 education costs.
Trump accounts give children a stake in the American Dream and give taxpayers a stake in our children’s future.
Democrats keep saying these tax cuts are for the rich so they can justify repealing them. But doing that would actually hurt the working class. The Treasury Department found that the Working Families Tax Cuts passed by this Republican Congress and signed by President Trump overwhelmingly benefited low-and middle-income Americans.
This working mom won’t allow the Democrats’ Socialist nightmare to crush our kids’ dreams and bankrupt their future. Not on my watch!
