WASHINGTON, D.C. — Brittany Danielle isn’t your typical 9-to-5 businesswoman; she’s at the White House by 5:30 a.m., ready to do Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s makeup. Brittany is often in the White House all day, ready to fit makeup into Karoline’s full schedule. 

In a new article in its “Champion Women” series, Independent Women’s Features (IW Features), the grassroots storytelling and original journalism division of Independent Women, highlights how Brittany has combined her passion for makeup and relentless work ethic to become a White House makeup artist.

Brittany’s interest in makeup began while attending high school in rural West Virginia, leading her to study cosmetology and fashion merchandising. She began doing makeup on the side for events in Washington, D.C., which led to a job at Fox News. 

One early morning while working at Fox News, she met Karoline as she came to her makeup chair last-minute. When Karoline came by later to thank Brittany for helping her, Brittany asked if she had a hair and makeup artist. Karoline immediately asked for Brittany’s phone number, and from there the two have been the team behind Karoline’s camera-ready life. 

About Karoline, Brittany told IW Features, in part:

“I really want to make her look beautiful and feel really good. Working around her is really unlike working with anybody else—and not just because she’s press secretary. It’s because she really goes to work… And sometimes I’m laughing hysterically because I’m chasing her down the hall before she goes on, and I’m like, ‘Please don’t forget to put your lipstick on, or don’t forget to put your blush on.’”

Brittany’s dedication to ensuring that her clients never have to worry about their appearance has built trust with those she works with, including Karoline. 

“I was able to plan her baby shower,” she said, referencing Karoline’s recent pregnancy with her daughter. “That was so fun for me.”

Even though Brittany works behind the scenes, she hasn’t escaped criticism for her association with the Trump administration. “I was getting death threats,” Brittany said. “People were like, ‘I pray every day that you go to hell.’” These threats, however, haven’t dissuaded Brittany. 

Brittany’s business has continued to blossom; while the press secretary is her main priority, she also juggles several clients, including Lara Trump and Fox News personalities. She attributes her success to factors beyond makeup artistry:

“Talent, it might get you in the room, but humility and kindness and willingness to learn from others will help you, and it will make people want to work with you again and again.”

Brittany hopes to keep growing her business, and as a true Champion Woman, she said she wants to empower more artists with the career in media and politics she’s grown to love.
