New IW Features profile highlights Jashinsky’s commitment to authenticity, accountability, and asking the right questions.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Whether she’s hosting her podcast After Party, appearing on-air with The Megyn Kelly Show, co-hosting the online show Breaking Points, or writing for UnHerd, Emily Jashinsky is a force to be reckoned with in the new media world.

In a new article in its “Champion Women” series, Independent Women’s Features (IW Features), the grassroots storytelling and original journalism arm of Independent Women, highlights Jashinsky’s passion for authentic, honest journalism. 

Hosting an award-winning podcast was not part of Emily Jashinsky’s initial aspirations growing up; she was too busy hunting and fishing in the woods of Wisconsin. Jashinsky’s journey into journalism began when her frustration with how the media represented people like her family led her to study political science at George Washington University. Following her graduation in 2015, she was met with a media landscape undergoing a major transformation. Traditional broadcast media and print journalism were the old kids on the block, and a new wave of media was breaking containment.

Jashinsky has been able to merge the polished presentation of mainstream media, such as incorporating elements of a traditional cable news set into the set of her podcast, Breaking Points, with the fresh perspectives of new media. 

One thing that sets new media and cable news apart is that new media is accountable to its audience, Jashinsky explained to IW Features. Jashinsky understands the importance of remaining “fully authentic and honest”, which includes acknowledging that all journalists are biased. 

“If you’re doing it right, you’re constantly checking your biases and checking in with people in normal places in the country,” she said. 

Rather than speaking for all Americans or telling her audience what to think, Jashinsky told IW Features that her job as a journalist “is to ask the right questions.” 

Jashinsky also told IW Features that she is more optimistic than ever about the future. Even across the political aisle, she said she believes Americans can find common ground. By bringing Americans together with thoughtful questions, authentic writing, and honest journalism, Jashinsky has become a crucial part of charting a new path for journalists of the future.
