WASHINGTON, D.C. – Under President Donald J. Trump’s leadership, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apparatus has been tasked with the responsibility of keeping America safe by maintaining a secure border and homeland, free of dangerous immigrants who are in the country illegally. ICE agents are being demonized, particularly online and in the mainstream media, and called names like “Nazis,” “terrorists,” “kidnappers,” and the “Gestapo.” These are some of the names that activists and politicians are using to describe federal officers who are carrying out high-risk arrests that remove violent criminals, including convicted murderers and sex offenders, from American communities.
Patrick Divver, the top official overseeing ICE’s arrests, detention, and deportations across San Diego, told Independent Women’s Features (IW Features), the grassroots storytelling and original journalism division of Independent Women, that anti-law enforcement rhetoric not only endangers agents but also puts the public at risk. In an exclusive interview, Divver detailed critical ICE cases—such as a sex offender hiding in a daycare—that underscore ICE’s critical role in keeping families safe.
Divver warned, “Rhetoric is dangerous….It empowers our targets and the general public to think that’s what we’re doing. It’s not. We’re enforcing immigration law as written by Congress. But because of that misinformation, people have interfered with our arrests, putting themselves, my officers, and even the individuals we’re arresting in danger.”

Divver, who is known by his agents as “Number 1,” emphasized: “The mission of ICE is simple: We safeguard our borders and safeguard the integrity of the immigration program. If someone is in the interior of the United States illegally, it’s our job to apprehend, arrest, and remove them. That’s the law—and it hasn’t changed since 1982.”
In just 90 days, Divver reported that ICE in San Diego has taken four convicted murderers off the streets, along with gang members from Logan Heights, the Oriental Killer Boys, and individuals convicted of aggravated assault and sex crimes. Just weeks ago, ICE officers tracked down a convicted sex offender and unregistered gang member living inside a San Diego home daycare.
“ICE has been wrongfully demonized by liberal activists for simply doing their job for far too long. We know full well how unmanaged illegal immigration endangers vulnerable people on both sides of the border and that’s an issue that should be met with bipartisan support,” said Andrea Mew, IW Features managing editor. “Thank goodness for ICE agents like Patrick Divver who stand by their enforcement of the law, who stand with legal immigrants, and who want nothing more than to keep American families safe.”
