WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the cancellation of several federal grants that supported programs promoting radical gender ideology and sexually explicit content in schools, without parental notification or consent. This action marks another step in the Trump administration’s broader effort to empower parents—not the government—to be in the driver’s seat regarding their children’s education.
Neeraja Deshpande, Independent Women policy analyst, praised the administration’s action as an important victory for parents and children, saying, “Finally, we are seeing age-appropriate content being promoted in schools that helps kids grow into their bodies—and learn their proper biological functions—after over a decade of efforts from ideologues to get kids to reject their bodies via gender ideology.”
The Trump administration is shifting federal priorities and resources away from the Biden-era emphasis on ideological indoctrination in government-run schools. As part of this announcement, HHS also announced two new funding opportunities that shift federal priorities toward body literacy, age-appropriate health education, and sexual risk avoidance. The new grant opportunities will support age-appropriate health education that promotes healthy decision-making and prioritizes the well-being of children.
