The separation of powers is a defining aspect of our system of government intended to safeguard our individual liberties. Under the Constitution, Congress is supposed to make the law, the judiciary is supposed to interpret the law, and the president is supposed to execute the law. But today, federal agencies often make, interpret, and enforce the law all under the same roof — without any accountability. Agency rules determine everything from whether a farmer may plow her own field to what kinds of contraceptive coverage employers must provide. It’s time to protect our civil liberties from an unconstitutional and ever-expanding government leviathan.
