WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, at the NATO Summit in Ankara, Turkey, President Donald J. Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he will allow Ukraine to manufacture Patriot missiles, giving Kyiv the only Western capability that can reliably defend its cities from Russia’s ballistic missiles. Independent Women applauds this and POTUS’ public endorsement of Ukraine’s long range strikes as a means to end the war. Taken together, these are a decisive America First strategy that advances U.S. interests by helping Ukraine defend its airspace and confront one of the West’s most dangerous adversaries.
Dr. Meaghan Mobbs, director of Independent Women’s Center for America Safety and Security, said:
“Putin has built his war strategy around the belief that the West will always hesitate. President Trump is proving him wrong. Giving Ukraine the ability to manufacture the weapons that will help defend its skies and strike the machinery of Russia’s war is exactly how America restores deterrence without sending American troops into the fight. This is strong, sober, and unmistakably in America’s interest: make aggression costly, make our adversaries think twice, and make clear that the United States does not reward terror.”
The attack follows Independent Women’s recent Russia Reality conference in Washington, D.C., which brought together national security leaders, lawmakers, policy experts, journalists, and practitioners to examine the nature of the Russian threat to the United States, Ukraine, Europe, and the free world.
According to Independent Women’s polling presented at the conference, information about Russia’s actions increases the share of voters who view Russia as a serious threat. After voters were shown descriptions of reported Russian conduct, concern about Russia increased.
The polling also highlights that 61% of voters agree that taking a tougher stance on Russia is consistent with an American First foreign policy because it projects strength and deters adversaries.
