WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s Executive Order, “Promoting Advanced Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Security.”
Carrie Sheffield, director of the Center for AI and Technology at Independent Women, said, “Today’s Executive Order (EO) promotes advanced artificial intelligence (AI) innovation and security to protect U.S. interests and keep America ahead of global AI competitors.
“As AI continues to transform American society, including defense, energy, education, transportation, and private industries across the economy, clear leadership from the Trump administration is critical to fostering innovation while strengthening cybersecurity and shielding critical infrastructure from adversaries.
“We are encouraged by the EO’s collaborative approach and its recognition of the important role advanced AI models play in enhancing security and resilience. We look forward to working on EO implementation to ensure these technologies are deployed to strengthen the economy, protect consumers (including against political misuse), and allow a level playing field for AI innovation among both small and large U.S. competitors.”
Meaghan Mobbs, Director of the Center for American Safety and Security at Independent Women said, “Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a pillar of national power. The nation that leads in this space will have significant advantages in defense, intelligence, cybersecurity, and economic competitiveness.
“As our adversaries race to develop and deploy these capabilities, the United States cannot afford to fall behind. Maintaining America’s technological edge while safeguarding critical systems from exploitation is a matter of national security and strategic deterrence.
“We strongly support American leadership that will help ensure that the technologies shaping the future advance our interests, strengthen our security, and reinforce our position as the world’s sole superpower.”
Last month, Independent Women announced the launch of its Center for AI and Technology, a bold new initiative to ensure the United States leads the world in innovation while protecting the interests of Americans—especially women navigating the frontlines of technological change.
The center’s areas of work include:
