NORFOLK, VAIndependent Women’s Features, the investigative journalism and grassroots storytelling division of Independent Women, today released a bombshell profile detailing how Norfolk police officers Meghan Grabow and Martin Powers say they faced retaliation after objecting to a transgender-identifying male recruit being allowed into the women’s locker room.

The explosive profile, “Virginia Police Officers Suspended for Objecting to Trans-Identified Male Recruit in Women’s Locker Room,” uncovers the allegations that Norfolk Police Department leadership dismissed female officer Meghan Grabow’s privacy and safety concerns, while also demanding the use of female pronouns for a biological male recruit and referring to him as “female” and a “woman.”

According to Grabow and Powers, attempts to raise concerns over the matter internally resulted in suspensions, threats to their careers, and an increasingly hostile workplace environment.

When officer Meghan Grabow told the Norfolk Police Department leadership about encountering a man staring at her inside the women’s locker room, they allegedly dismissed her concerns because the male recruit identified as a transgender female.

Grabow told IW Features that, though she is only 5-foot-3, she has a reputation for being tough and “rough around the edges.” Because of this, she said she felt as though her feeling of being unsafe was diminished because of her personality and reputation. At one point, she says she was even advised to bring her firearm into the shower if she felt unsafe.

Even more alarming, according to the officers, the male recruit reportedly made no attempt to present as female—did not dress nor act like a woman.

“It was very clear that this [transgender-identifying people] was a protected class and their rights were significantly more important and trumped our very own rights,” Grabow told IW Features.

Officer Martin Powers, who chose to stand by Grabow, estimates that in total around 16 different officers—split evenly male and female—went to speak to the Chief about the incident in support of Grabow despite the immense pressure of potentially even losing their jobs.

Powers, who has since been terminated from the department, warned that the consequences extend far beyond one locker room dispute.

“In the police world, we’re only supposed to deal in truth and in fact—that’s it,” Powers told IW Features. “If we start denying objective reality, then we tarnish the profession, and the profession then starts to lose all credibility.”

Both Powers and Grabow say they paid a steep price for speaking up—faced retaliation in the forms of termination and suspension. Grabow is currently appealing her suspension with the police department, Powers is attempting to exhaust all legal options.

THeir story raises urgent national questions about compelled speech, workplace retaliation, women’s privacy protections, and the erosion of biological reality in favor of gender ideology in public institutions.
