On Monday, as part of the Trump administration’s Tax Week spotlight on how the Working Families Tax Cuts are making a difference for the pocketbooks of everyday Americans, President Donald Trump received a McDonald’s delivery via DoorDash.

The president held an impromptu press conference with the app-based delivery driver, who informed him that not only had the signature cuts as part of the One Big Beautiful Law saved her over $11,000 this year, but the No Tax on Tips policy was helping this grandmother of 10 with family expenses.

Sharon Simmons, the “DoorDash Grandma,” is a shining example of how women, especially senior women and women with families, often use independent contracting and gig work to beef up their incomes and balance their budget, while having the flexibility needed to take care of family and other concerns. As CEO Director Patrice Onwuka wrote in January:

Americans can look forward to keeping more of their earnings as bigger tax cuts lead to bigger refunds this year and bigger paychecks going forward.

Simmons confirmed this was the case to President Trump and to the DoorDash company:

“It was an incredible honor to represent Dashers from all over the country at the White House today. Thanks to DoorDash, I have been able to provide for my family while keeping the schedule that works best for me, something I never thought would be possible. Now No Tax on Tips has taken things to the next level, letting me keep more of the tips I earn and deserve,” said Sharon. “Today is a celebration of the advocacy of thousands of Dashers from around the country who fought to ensure we were included in this policy.”

The DoorDash company also took a victory lap for its part in lobbying Congress to ensure the One Big Beautiful Act came to fruition.

The final version of No Tax on Tips would have looked much different without the advocacy of more than 40,000 Dashers who worked tirelessly to ensure independent workers were included in the final language that became law.

‘This moment represents something bigger than a single delivery. It’s about the millions of Dashers across the country who are now able to keep more of what they earn when filing their taxes this year. With No Tax on Tips, Dashers across the U.S. saved hundreds of millions of dollars last year. DoorDash is proud to advocate on behalf of Dashers like Sharon and push for policies like No Tax on Tips because they deliver real impact to so many hardworking people and their families,’ said Max Rettig, DoorDash’s Global Head of Public Policy.

Independent Women was at the forefront of championing the Working Families Tax Cuts housed in the Act:

The 2026 tax season started in late January, and thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts, Americans are seeing noticeably bigger relief than last year. The biggest tax benefits include no taxes on tips, no taxes on overtime, an increased child tax credit, an increased standard deduction, and increased deductions for seniors.

While the tax cuts were passed in July 2025, Americans are now receiving the benefits this tax season. Across the board, the average tax refund amount is 11.1% higher than in 2025. That translates to an average of $350 more tax dollars in 2026 that go back into the pockets of Americans because of good tax policy.

DoorDash Grandma Sharon Simmons is but one example of the dividends American women and everyday Americans are reaping thanks to good tax policy.
