RALEIGH, N.C. — On the heels of the $2 million Fox Varian detransitioner verdict, the tide has begun to turn on gender ideology, with more and more lawsuits gaining traction nationwide. Today, in one of the first lawsuits of its kind, first filed in 2023, Independent Women ambassador and detransitioner Prisha Mosley is taking her groundbreaking case to the North Carolina Court of Appeals—seeking to reinstate medical malpractice claims that could reshape accountability in gender medicine.
Doctors and therapists coaxed Mosley down a path of medicalized “gender transition.” Her lawsuit includes claims of medical malpractice, negligence, and fraud—and her appeal could determine whether victims like her are allowed their day in court.
Mosley’s case—viewed as one of the most significant detransitioner lawsuits in the country—now enters its most critical phase. Today’s appeal could determine whether individuals harmed by so-called “gender-affirming care” are allowed to seek justice once they fully understand the extent of their injuries.
“The system that should have been designed to protect me instead threw me to the wolves. The doctors that I should trust sold me snakeoil,” Prisha Mosley, Independent Women ambassador and detransitioner said. “My case means more to me now than ever because I’m fighting for justice not only for myself, but for thousands of other detransitioners who did not get what we were entitled to: informed consent and dignity.”
Legal experts say the implications are enormous.
“Our case is not only justice for one individual, but sets a precedent for other such cases nationwide. It stands at the intersection of medicine, ethics, and accountability in an era where all three, at times, come into conflict. If our appeal is successful, it will not guarantee victory, but it will guarantee something far more fundamental: the right for detransitioners to be heard,” said Joshua Payne, one of Mosley’s attorneys and co-founder of Campbell Miller Payne, a law firm dedicated to representing detransitioners and others harmed through medical transition procedures.
A lower court previously dismissed Mosley’s case—even after groundbreaking North Carolina law (HB 805) took effect extending the statute of limitations for gender-transition-related cases. Now, the appeals court will decide whether those claims can move forward.
If successful, Mosley’s case could set a national precedent—ensuring detransitioners are not barred from seeking justice simply because it took time to fully grasp their injuries and the extent of side effects from the chemical and surgical mutilation.
In a new joint op-ed for Fox News with her attorney Josh Payne, Mosley writes, “My doctor even told me that by taking testosterone, I would go through puberty as a boy. This was a lie. This was medical fraud.”
Mosley continues, “I received deceptive affirmation, not medicine. My psychological suffering grew even worse than it was prior to transition, compounded by the loss of my healthy functioning body and body parts. And these consequences will never be reversible.”

BACKGROUND: PRISHA MOSLEY’S LAWSUIT:
- Mosley filed her lawsuit in July 2023 against multiple healthcare providers for medical malpractice related to gender transition treatments she underwent as a minor and young adult.
- While part of Mosley’s lawsuit in May 2024 was cleared to proceed, her full case involving medical malpractice could not. The judge dismissed Mosley’s malpractice claims under North Carolina’s prior statute of limitations.
- In August 2025, Mosley’s lawyers filed a motion to reinstate malpractice claims and proceed with the full original case.
- Despite the North Carolina statute of limitations law change in 2025, Mosley’s claims were dismissed, prompting her legal team to file an appeal in September 2025.
