WASHINGTON D.C. — As lawmakers grapple with the rapidly evolving threat of domestic terrorism fueled by artificial intelligence, social media, and emerging technologies, Meaghan Mobbs, director of Independent Women’s Center for American Safety and Security, was tapped to brief members of Congress at a roundtable convened by the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee. 

Hosted jointly by the Subcommittees on Counterterrorism and Intelligence and Oversight, Investigations and Accountability, the event brought together members of Congress and national security experts to examine the constraints currently limiting the United States’ ability to detect, deter, and defeat domestic terror threats—particularly those accelerated by digital platforms and online influence operations. 

“I’m encouraged by the bipartisan seriousness of this roundtable and the shared commitment to protecting all Americans,” said Mobbs. “Domestic terrorism is not a partisan problem—it is a national responsibility. As the leading conservative women’s organization, we want to be part of solutions that are grounded in evidence, respect civil liberties, and protect our children and our future.”

During the discussion, Mobbs provided expert insight into how modern technologies are reshaping domestic terrorism and complicating law enforcement and intelligence responses. Key challenges identified, include:

  • The lack of a set definition for “domestic terrorism”;
  • Breakdowns in information sharing between federal, state, and local authorities;
  • Balancing counterterrorism efforts with First Amendment protections;
  • The exploitation of media ecosystems by foreign and domestic adversaries; and
  • The growing influence of online platforms on youth radicalization and mental health.

Participants explored policy and operational solutions to address these threats, with a focus on adapting counterterrorism strategies for a digital environment where AI-driven propaganda, social media amplification, and emerging technologies increasingly blur the line between online activity and real-world violence.

Mobbs’ contributions draw on her broader work examining the intersection of culture, security, and Western domestic values. She is the author of “Women and the West: Liberty, Tyranny, and True Liberal Values,” a recent report analyzing how free speech, rule of law, and equal justice are being undermined by ideological pressures and “suicidal empathy.” The report proposes solutions to address the declining security in American society and strengthen our defense against both foreign and domestic threats.

As Congress seeks informed, credible voices to navigate the next generation of domestic security challenges, Mobbs continues to emerge as a leading expert—bridging policy, culture, and national defense in a moment when clarity and seriousness are urgently needed.
