WASHINGTON, D.C. – At a time when questions swirl about the surge—and now partial retreat—of trans-identifying youth, one father is stepping forward with a rare, intimate look at what families face behind closed doors. Despite recent declines, the social contagion continues to sweep through vulnerable adolescents nationwide, and few parents are willing to speak publicly about what really happens when their child suddenly claims a new gender identity.

Today, Independent Women’s Features (IW Features), the grassroots storytelling and original journalism arm of Independent Women, releases part two of its explosive documentary on the Amaya Price family as part of its ongoing “Identity Crisis” docu-series.

The Amaya Price story is one where love conquered hatred, biological reality prevailed, and the powerful transgender lobby was exposed. After releasing Simon’s story last month, IW Features now turns to the father at the center of the storm. Part two of this exclusive documentary offers Gareth Amaya Price’s first-hand account of the medical, political, and social machinery that tried to funnel his confused teenage son toward hormones and irreversible procedures.

Simon Amaya Price, now a desister who escaped the transgender cult, previously self-identified as a girl, but never medically transitioned thanks to the steadfastness and courage of his dad, Gareth.

Simon’s spiral began in high school after he experienced sexual assault and a constant barrage of homophobic bullying. When he told his father he now identified as a girl, Gareth began researching online, reading studies, and speaking with other parents. He began questioning how and why Boston’s Children’s Hospital had established a “Center for Gender Health,” and why so many doctors seemed eager to fast-track vulnerable teens towards transition.

The Transgender Lobby Exposed

The more Gareth researched, the more he learned that the transgender lobby was not only well-funded, but also well-supported by medical professionals and throughout Massachusetts. For example, in May 2025, Boston announced $200,000 in funding, including a $50,000 grant to the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC) for legal document assistance and emergency financial needs.

Gareth met with numerous doctors, including Simon’s pediatrician, who directed him to the Center for Gender Health at Boston’s Children’s Hospital and asked him in front of his son, “Would you rather have a live daughter or a dead son?”

The Department of Children and Family Services had taken children in some states “because their families did not affirm them in their gender ideology or their transgender identification,” Gareth discovered.

Most importantly, Gareth learned that “the majority of children who say this while they’re children, if you don’t interfere with them, they grow out of it,” Gareth told IW Features.

Father and Son Reunited

Gareth’s opposition to Simon’s self-identification significantly strained their father-son relationship. In fact, Gareth endured years of hostility and even hatred from his own son because he pushed back against the aggressive “gender-affirming” system he knew would hurt Simon. About this period of time, Gareth told IW Features:

“The hate of your child is a heavy burden to bear. Sometimes you have to, because when you’re doing it for your love of that child, not just for your love of that child as he is right now, but for the love of your child as he will be for years and decades to go forward, you have to bear that burden.”

In the end, Gareth stood grounded in his principles and prevented Simon from falling victim to the transgender lobby and irreversible medicalization. Today, thanks to Gareth’s courage in the face of adversity, this father-son duo is sharing their survival story and why they are pushing back against the transgender contagion.

One example of their joint advocacy was during the Federal Trade Commission’s event, “The Dangers of ‘Gender-Affirming Care’ for Minors,” in July, where the two spoke on a panel titled, “A Conversation with Parents and Survivors.” Powerful testimonies, like those shared by Gareth and Simon, led the FTC to open up a public comment drive exposing the serious risks and false claims regarding so-called “gender-affirming care” and its harmful effects on minors.

Kaylee McGhee White, Independent Women’s Features’ editor-in-chief and documentary producer, said: “Parents of children struggling from gender confusion almost always feel confused themselves, isolated, and fearful of challenging the transgender narrative pushed on them by just about every facet of society. However, it is vital that they find the courage to do so. Gareth and Simon Amaya Price’s story proves why. Gareth Amaya Price is a powerful example of a parent who prioritized his child’s stability and well-being despite immense social pressure not to. His experience saving his son from the transgender cult proves that it is not only possible for children to break free from its ideological grip, but likely, so long as they have the support they need from parents who are anchored in reality.”

The Amaya Price two-part documentary is part of IW Features’ “Identity Crisis: Real Stories About Escaping Gender Ideology” series, which was established in 2022. IW Features released part one of the Amaya Price story, How This Desister Broke Free From the Transgender Contagion, in October.
