WASHINGTON, D.C. — Independent Women issued the following response to President Trump’s announcement today to expand IVF access for women.
Hadley Heath Manning, Independent Women senior fellow for culture and family, said:
“This policy aims to address the very high personal costs of families who use IVF while also recognizing a diversity of views on reproductive technology. Rather than enforce a blunt mandate, the Trump Administration is working to expand options for employers and for parents.
“This draws sharp contrast from previous administrations that have abused the government’s power in similar intersections between moral convictions and reproductive health care issues — sometimes even forcing employers to violate their consciences or the law, as was the case with President Obama’s birth control mandate.
“It is a welcome change to focus more broadly on family planning and family policy, and not just ways to avoid having a family. All families benefit from reforms that minimize the government’s role in health care and offer patients more affordable and more competitive options.”
