“Real compassion is not sacrificing the poor to score political points with a partisan few, but making government nimble and responsive to the immediate needs of all Americans.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women’s Center for Economic Opportunity issued the following statement applauding President Donald J. Trump’s action to restore funding for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) amid the ongoing government shutdown.

Patrice Onwuka, director of Independent Women’s Center for Economic Opportunity, said:

“We applaud President Trump and this administration for their compassion and creativity in finding a quick solution to WIC funding. Over six million poor pregnant women and children no longer need to worry about affording their next meal or other critical services the program renders. The Left used these vulnerable Americans as a bargaining chip to advance their agenda of protecting healthcare subsidies for the well-off and free healthcare for illegal immigrants. Real compassion is not sacrificing the poor to score political points with a partisan few, but making government nimble and responsive to the immediate needs of all Americans. Congress must still pass the ‘clean’ continuing resolution and a budget that returns fiscal sanity to Washington.”
