WASHINGTON, D.C. — Reckless border policies from the Obama and Biden administrations have resulted in an influx of illegal immigration devastating American communities. Despite the bold changes advanced by the Trump administration to restore American border security, too many families have suffered the deadly cost of neglected and open borders.

With a trailer out today, Independent Women’s Features (IW Features), the grassroots storytelling and original journalism division of Independent Women, teases the launch of a new docu-series, “Collateral Damage: Voices of the Angel Moms”, which brings to light the stories of mothers who lost their children at the hands of illegal immigrant crime.

IW Features is partnering with The American Border Story (TABS) to produce this docu-series to amplify the voices of Angel families and shine a spotlight on the human cost of failed border policies.

These Angel Moms are pushing through the pain to tell their stories in hopes that they can raise awareness on the harms of illegal immigration and drive lasting policy change to save others from the loss they have endured.

IW Features’ trailer highlights two angel moms, Marie Vega and Anne Fundner. In the video, Vega says, in part:

“Had our immigration laws been enforced, my son would be here, and my grandchildren would have their dad. They would never have witnessed what happened that day.”

In an effort to bring attention to mothers in America who have lost their children at the hands of illegal aliens, “Collateral Damage: Voices of the Angel Moms”, underscores the need to enforce lasting border security to protect American families and our communities from the imported crime that became so rampant under the previous administration.

Andrea Mew, IW Features Managing Editor, said:

“When Marie told me, ‘Mothers aren’t supposed to outlive their children,’ it hit me with a weight you just can’t shake off. Harvey was a devoted Marine, son, and dad whose kids will never have him back because some of our leaders didn’t enforce the law. I’ll never forget her describing how she crawled through the dirt toward him while gunfire tore through their camp. That’s why we’re telling the stories of Angel Moms in our Collateral Damage series––because behind every policy failure is a family shattered, and Americans deserve to see what’s really at stake when our nation is not secure.”

Meaghan Mobbs, director of Independent Women’s Center for American Safety and Security, said:

“The border may finally be secure, but for these moms it was too little, too late. Their children were stolen in the chaos of reckless policies that put politics above protection. Collateral Damage: Voices of the Angel Moms matters because it refuses to let America forget their names, their stories, and the price paid when leaders failed to act. It is a call to honor their loss by ensuring no other mother endures the same preventable heartbreak.”

Nicole Kiprilov, visiting fellow with Independent Women’s Center for American Safety and Security and Executive Director of The American Border Story (TABS), said:

“Every one of these Angel Moms carries a story that never should have happened. If our immigration laws had been enforced, their children would still be alive. This series exposes the human cost of open borders and failed policies, and makes clear why restoring border security is not just a policy debate, but a matter of life and death for American families.”
