On September 4, at the invitation of First Lady Melania Trump, I attended the White House Task Force Meeting on Artificial Intelligence Education held in the East Room of the White House.
The task force is chaired by Michael Kratsios, Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Members include the Secretary of Agriculture, the Secretary of Labor, the Secretary of Education, the Secretary of Energy, the Director of the National Science Foundation, the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy, the Special Advisor for AI and Crypto, the Assistant to the President for Policy, and the Assistant to the President for the Office of the First Lady.
Opening the meeting with formal remarks, the first lady stated, “I predict AI will represent the single largest growth category in our nation during the Trump Administration—and I won’t be surprised if AI becomes known as the greatest engine of progress in the history of the United States of America. But, as leaders and parents, we must manage AI’s growth responsibly. During this primitive stage, it is our duty to treat AI as we would our own children—empowering, but with watchful guidance. We are living in a moment of wonder, and it is our responsibility to prepare America’s children.”
The first lady and the president recognize that artificial intelligence education is a crucial component of equipping the next generation.
On April 23, President Trump signed the “Advancing Artificial Intelligence Education for American Youth” executive order into law. The executive order states: “It is the policy of the United States to promote AI literacy and proficiency among Americans by promoting the appropriate integration of AI into education, providing comprehensive AI training for educators, and fostering early exposure to AI concepts and technology to develop an AI-ready workforce and the next generation of American AI innovators.”
Artificial intelligence education is foundational in the golden age of innovation, which will create jobs, drive economic growth, and increase our national security—all priorities the Trump administration is taking strategic action to accomplish for the American people.
