WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women issued the following statement in response to the anniversary of the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Meaghan Mobbs, director of Independent Women’s Center for American Safety and Security, said:

“The cost of our withdrawal is counted not only in the lives of the 13 Americans lost at Abbey Gate, but in the extinguished dreams of Afghan women and girls. America’s longest war did not end with strategy or dignity – it ended with chaos. That moment weakened our deterrence abroad and our moral standing at home. The consequences are still unfolding, and they demand we learn the right lessons.

“Today we remember all those who gave their lives and served their country in Afghanistan. We owe it to the fallen, to Afghan women, and to America’s future to ensure we never again repeat those mistakes. Strategy matters, promises matter, and lives depend on both.”
