WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women announced detransitioners Claire Abernathy and Soren Aldaco have joined the organization as ambassadors—two powerful voices exposing one of the greatest medical scandals of our time.
Their stories—first told by Independent Women’s grassroots storytelling division, Independent Women’s Features (IW Features), through its groundbreaking “Identity Crisis” documentary series—shook the nation. Now, as ambassadors, Abernathy and Aldaco are doubling down on their mission: to stop the chemical and surgical mutilation of minors and demand accountability from the institutions that failed them.
Since 2022, Independent Women has been at the forefront of bringing detransitioners’ stories to light, breaking the silence around so-called ”gender-affirming care” and showing how its reckless medical interventions are leaving a generation of young people with irreversible harm.
Claire Abernathy, Independent Women ambassador and detransitioner, said:
“I hadn’t even learned algebra in high school yet, but I was old enough to choose to have healthy parts of my body electively amputated. Later, when I tried to leave honest reviews online about my regrets, complications, and the lack of real informed consent—those reviews were deleted. Think about that: a surgeon permanently altered my healthy body when I was a middle school student, and then erased my warnings to protect his reputation. If that doesn’t sound like fraud, I don’t know what does.”
Soren Aldaco, Independent Women ambassador and detransitioner, said:
“I am deeply grateful to Independent Women for supporting my mission of having nuanced and honest conversations about gender ideology. Since reconnecting with womanhood in 2022, I’ve felt moved to share my experience with pediatric sex trait modification. As personal as my story is, I believe that the patterns underlying it are far from unique. Our young people deserve to grow up intact and grounded—and prepared with the resilience necessary to remain that way in adulthood, too.”
“Soren and Claire are two outstanding, brave young women. Their voices are critical at a time when we are just beginning to understand what’s been happening quietly across the nation—deception, abuse, and harm of minors under the guise of care,” said Brianna Howard, Independent Women ambassador manager. “These young women have endured unbelievably traumatic experiences as minors, and now they are courageously using their stories for good. Independent Women is proud to welcome them into our Ambassador program and to help ensure their voices are heard, loud and clear. Together, we are fully embracing our motto: ‘Tell Her Story, Change The World!’”
Through Independent Women’s Ambassador Program, survivors like Abernathy and Aldaco receive the platform, training, and support to amplify their stories and shape the national debate. The program is designed to make policy personal—detailing the real, human cost of bad policy and demonstrating the benefits of good policy. By raising public awareness, fostering debate, and challenging entrenched narratives, Independent Women ambassadors change minds, change laws, and change lives.
“Data alone rarely moves hearts,” said Victoria Coley, vice president of communications at Independent Women. “What moves people are brave, relatable voices—like Claire’s and Soren’s—that make it impossible to ignore the truth.”
Independent Women’s Ambassador Program now includes some of the most prominent detransitioners in the country, including Prisha Mosley. Mosley’s advocacy footprint has skyrocketed since first telling her story through IW Features and joining the ambassador program. Mosley has testified on Capitol Hill, spoken outside of the U.S. Supreme Court, and appeared before dozens of state legislatures. She is still driving policy impact by sharing her story before national and state media outlets, writing op-eds, and appearing on various radio and TV networks.
Together, these women are rewriting the narrative—and demanding the abuse of minors stop.
MOSLEY, ABERNATHY, AND ALDACO NEW OP-ED: We Were Transitioned as Children. Here’s How We May Finally Be Able To Achieve Justice
Last month, Aldaco and Abernathy participated in the Federal Trade Commission’s workshop, “The Dangers of ‘Gender-Affirming Care’ for Minors,” alongside whistleblowers, doctors, and other detransitioners, including Cat Cattinson, Chloe Cole, and Miriam Grossman, MD. The workshop highlighted the devastating physical, emotional, and psychological toll of so-called “gender medicine.”
Following the workshop, Independent Women launched the Protect Minors from “Gender-Affirming” Abuse regulatory comment drive to mobilize Independent Women’s Network members to tell their own stories and demand the FTC crack down on deceptive medical practices targeting children. The deadline for public comment is September 26, 2025.
Aldaco, Abernathy, and Mosley also penned a joint op-ed published today for IW Features: We Were Transitioned as Children. Here’s How We May Finally Be Able To Achieve Justice.
The detransitioners wrote, in part: “As Ambassadors at Independent Women, we call for an end to the gender-medicine complex’s abuse of children by sharing our stories on social media, television news, podcasts, and even the floors of legislatures. Although rehashing the trauma of what we’ve been through is difficult, to say the least, we do so because we understand the power of stories like ours in unmasking gender ideology and revealing its dangers to others.”
Independent Women’s Features “Identity Crisis” series has become a national platform for detransitioners and their loved ones. With raw honesty, the series has revealed the graphic realities of “transition”—from double mastectomies gone wrong, to clitoral growth, to trapped milk ducts, and hairy bodies. “Identity Crisis” stories are sparking a cultural reckoning and driving legislative reform and litigation for justice across the country.
