WASHINGTON, D.C. – In their pursuit of educating and inspiring children, America’s teachers often face the realities of a bureaucratic system. Independent Women’s recent report, “Give Teachers A Break: Cutting Red Tape to Unleash the Potential of America’s Great Teachers,” revealed how teachers’ hands are often tied. The sheer amount of red tape they are forced to navigate has made teaching more difficult than it needs to be—and less effective and less rewarding than it should be.
On the heels of this report—and as students head back to school—Independent Women is launching its search for the 2025 Teacher of the Year to celebrate the educators who shape lives and inspire futures. Nominations open today, August 15, 2025.

One remarkable teacher will be named the 2025 Teacher of the Year and featured in an Independent Women Features (IW Features) short documentary celebrating their passion for teaching, leadership in the classroom, and lasting impact on students. IW Features, the grassroots storytelling and original journalism arm of Independent Women, brings to life the extraordinary accomplishments of everyday Americans.
