WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s decisive action to address the threat of rising crime in Washington, D.C.
Meaghan Mobbs, director of Independent Women’s Center for American Safety and Security, said:
“The Center for American Safety and Security strongly supports the President’s decisive action to restore law and order in our nation’s capital.
“Washington, D.C., is not only home to millions of Americans and visitors each year– it is the seat of our government, the symbol of our democracy, and the workplace of those who serve our nation. No one should have to navigate its streets in fear of violent crime.
“The recent murders of embassy staffers, the fatal shooting of a Congressional intern, and the brutal assault on a federal employee underscore the city’s breakdown in public safety. Mobilizing the National Guard is a lawful and necessary step to restore security, safeguard the functioning of government, and make clear that violence will not be tolerated in the heart of our Republic.”
